Roleplay Rules

1 - Character Creation

All players must complete the server's whitelisting process before participating in roleplay. During this process, you are expected to follow the guidance provided by staff.

Characters must be consistent with the server's lore in both their appearance and behavior. Please refer to the appropriate race page for information such as average height and any race-specific requirements. Your visual appearance must accurately reflect both your approved character sheet and your equipped runes. You may not depict or roleplay abilities, equipment, or features that your character does not possess.

Characters must originate from Toril, including the lands of Idria. Exceptions may be made for characters originating from the Feywild or Shadowfell, where appropriate for their race.

Once approved, only realistic cosmetic changes may be made to your character without additional approval. Significant changes to your character's appearance or concept require staff approval.

While minor inspiration for names or appearances is acceptable, characters must be your own original creation. Copyrighted characters, settings, backstories, themes, or direct cosplays are not permitted. All character concepts, writing, and stories on the server must remain unique and original.

2 - Sensitive Content

Idria allows roleplay involving dark and mature themes. We trust our players to handle these topics responsibly; however, certain subjects require additional care and explicit consent from everyone involved.

Sensitive content includes, but is not limited to:

  • Graphic injuries or torture.

  • Explicit sexual roleplay.

  • Non-consensual or dubiously consensual sexual situations.

  • Graphic descriptions of sexual acts.

  • Any combination of the above.

Interest in sexual roleplay may not be advertised through consent sheets, character profiles, or global chat.

Consent

Any scene involving sensitive content requires explicit out-of-character consent from every participant before the scene progresses. Consent may be withdrawn at any time, and any player may stop the scene if they become uncomfortable.

Consent sheets available through RolePlay Enhanced are optional and exist only to communicate general preferences. They do not replace the requirement to obtain explicit consent before engaging in sensitive roleplay.

Sensitive Content Requirements

When a scene progresses into sensitive content, all participants are expected to:

  • Follow all consent requirements.

  • Move the scene to a private or reasonably secluded location where uninvolved players are unlikely to enter.

  • Use a location appropriate for the roleplay being conducted. For example, torture should occur in a dungeon, graphic injury roleplay in an infirmary, or explicit sexual roleplay in an appropriate adult establishment.

If your base contains Points of Interest (POIs) indicating that adult or mature roleplay may occur there, you must still obtain explicit consent from everyone involved before beginning any sensitive scene and provide them with the opportunity to leave.

POIs are intended to inform players of the type of roleplay they may encounter, but they are not a substitute for consent. Players may miss a POI due to render distance, lag, or other circumstances, so consent must always be obtained before any graphic or sensitive emotes are performed.

Public Decency

Public nudity is not permitted.

At a minimum, underwear-equivalent clothing must fully cover the chest, buttocks, and genital areas. Characters must also continue to accurately display equipped equipment and runes in accordance with the Equipment rules.

Bystanders

If a player unintentionally enters a scene involving sensitive content and does not wish to participate, they may leave as soon as reasonably possible without penalty.

The player leaving should clearly communicate why they are exiting the scene. As a courtesy to others, discussions involving sensitive content should be kept to lower-range local chat such as Whisper or Mumble whenever possible.

Private Mature Roleplay

Roleplay involving non-consensual or sexually coercive themes may only occur between the original consenting participants.

Any roleplay, discussion, consequences, trauma, revenge, investigation, or references to that scene must remain entirely between those original participants. Such content may not become public knowledge, serve as a plot device, be used as a punishment, become part of another storyline, or be used as motivation for future conflict.

Violating the privacy of these scenes or attempting to involve uninvolved characters may result in immediate moderation action, up to and including a permanent ban depending on the severity of the violation.

Prohibited Content

The following content is strictly prohibited and may result in an immediate permanent ban without appeal:

  • Pregnancy or childbirth roleplay.

  • Pregnancy used as a consequence.

  • Abortion or fetal death, including consensual termination, forced miscarriage, or accidental miscarriage.

  • Child sacrifice.

  • Any roleplay involving underage characters or characters portrayed as child-like.

  • Any depiction of bestiality or zoophilia.

Idria has zero tolerance for players under the age of 18 or characters under the age of 20.

3 - Roleplay Etiquette

Roleplaying is  collaborative storytelling, not a competition. Every player is expected to contribute to enjoyable scenes by treating others with respect and following good roleplay etiquette, especially during PvP encounters.

At a minimum, players are expected to:

  • Keep out-of-character (OOC) conversation to a minimum during roleplay scenes.

  • Respond appropriately to social rolls.

  • Respect the agency of other characters by allowing them an opportunity to react to your actions.

  • Avoid portraying your character as omniscient. Your character only knows what they could reasonably know and should not rely on out-of-character information or "lore dump" information they have no reason to possess.

  • Remain courteous and respectful toward other players, even if out-of-character disagreements arise. Step away from the situation if necessary.

  • Value your character's life and roleplay accordingly, especially when facing overwhelming danger or when at another character's mercy.

4 - IC & OOC Separation

Keep in-character (IC) actions, emotions, and knowledge separate from out-of-character (OOC) actions, emotions, and knowledge. Using IC conflicts to target players OOC, or allowing OOC feelings or information to influence your character's actions, is not permitted.

Remember that characters are not the players behind them. If you no longer wish to roleplay with another player, communicate that respectfully instead of ignoring or avoiding the situation. If communication breaks down or the issue escalates, please open a ticket.

5 - Showing Equipment

Your character's visual appearance must accurately display the armor and weapons they intend to use by utilizing Tot! Custom.

You may not use weapons or equipment in roleplay or combat that your character is not visibly carrying, unless an approved exception applies (such as pact weapons).

6 - Metagaming

Taking in-character actions based on out-of-character knowledge is considered metagaming and is strictly prohibited.

Likewise, avoid sharing out-of-character information that could influence ongoing roleplay if acted upon in character. This includes, but is not limited to, information regarding recent combat, the actions or whereabouts of other characters, or other story developments. Use common sense and avoid enabling others to metagame.

To maintain an immersive roleplay environment, your character should only act upon information they could reasonably know.

Reasonable exceptions include discussing your own character's adventures, talking about non-actionable events, and arranging or scheduling roleplay through out-of-character channels.

7 - Powergaming

Powergaming is the act of forcing actions or outcomes upon another player without allowing them a reasonable opportunity to react.

Examples include automatically landing attacks, controlling another character's actions or emotions, forcing injuries or effects without player input, or otherwise removing another player's agency.

Roleplay should always allow the other participant an opportunity to respond unless a game mechanic or staff ruling explicitly states otherwise.

8 - Act Names

Players may use the /act command to conceal their identity or roleplay under an alias.

Appropriate examples include:

  • Shadowy Figure

  • Hooded Traveler

  • Rage

  • Nightingale

The /act command may not be used to:

  • Impersonate another player's character.

  • Impersonate staff members, NPCs, or established lore characters.

  • Circumvent the server's naming rules.

9 - Social Skill Rolls

Players targeted by a social roll are expected to respond either through a contested roll or appropriate roleplay.

Social rolls directed only at yourself do not require a response from surrounding players.

Social rolls do not guarantee a particular outcome and are never mind control, supernatural compulsion, or a means of forcing another player's actions. They simply represent your character making their best attempt to influence the situation.

10 - RP Avoidance

RP avoidance occurs when a player intentionally leaves or escapes an active roleplay scene without allowing the other participants a reasonable opportunity to respond.

Examples include walking away while another player is actively engaging you, leaving while someone is typing a response, disconnecting, teleporting, or otherwise abandoning a scene that is already underway.

If you need to leave a scene unexpectedly, communicate with the other players whenever possible.

The only exception is when a scene involves sensitive content that makes a player uncomfortable. In those cases, players may immediately remove themselves from the scene as outlined in the Sensitive Content rules.

11 - Lore Accuracy

Our server aims to provide a roleplay experience that remains faithful to the Forgotten Realms setting. Players are expected to familiarize themselves with the relevant race, class, and setting information needed to portray their characters appropriately.

Meme roleplay, excessive real-world references, and other immersion-breaking behavior should be avoided.

Characters are not superheroes and should not routinely perform feats beyond what is reasonable for their abilities. Exceptionally rare concepts, unusual character circumstances, or backstories with significant lore implications require prior staff approval before they may be played.
